A FEDERAL High Court in Lagos, has sentenced a 20-years-old man, Wasiu Tajudeen, to a term of one year imprisonment, for selling 200g of hemp also known as marijuana.
The defendant was charged by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on one count of drug trafficking, who pleaded guilty before Justice Mohammed Liman.
After his plea, the prosecutor, Mr Jeremiah Aernan, reviewed the facts of the case before the court, and tendered some documents.
The documents included written statement of the defendant, a drug analysis form, a request for scientific aid form, as well as remnant of the narcotics.

The court admitted the evidences and marked them as exhibits, accordingly. Aernan then urged the court to convict and sentence the defendant based on his plea as well as evidences adduced by prosecution.
Delivering his verdict, Liman found the defendant guilty of the offence and convicted him. He, consequently, sentenced him to a term of one year imprisonment beginning from the date of his arrest.
According to the charge file, the defendant was said to have committed the offences on Dec. 2, 2019.
Aernan said that he was arrested on a tip off at place called Mechanic Village near Power Line, in the Idimu area of Lagos, while trading on Hemp, a restricted drug similar to Cocaine and Heroine LSD.
The narcotics is listed in the NDLEA schedule as a banned substance.
The offence contravenes the provisions of sections 11(c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation 2004. (NAN)
