‘Mastermind’ of foiled Abuja bank robbery held

Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command Special Anti-Robbery Squad have arrested 29-year-old Ernest Ewim, suspected to be the mastermind of a foiled bank robbery.

One of the suspects has been killed by the police, while four others were nabbed.

A statement yesterday by police spokesman Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ajugunri Manzah read: “Following ongoing investigation into last Saturday’s foiled robbery attempt at a bank in Mpape, operatives of the FCT Police Command Special Anti-Robbery Squad have arrested Mr. Ernest Ewim, 29, a member of a notorious armed robbery gang, who had been at large.

“The suspect, who played a major role in the foiled robbery attempt, was arrested by detectives at his hideout in Katampe1 on Wednesday at about 4pm.

“With this arrest, the total number of suspects arrested in connection with the foiled robbery attempt is now five, namely Ernest Ewim, male, 29; Larry Ehizo, male, 30; Princewill Obinna, male, 24; Timothy Joe, male, 21; and Elijah David, male, 19.

“The command reiterates its commitment to ensure the protection of lives and property and provide FCT residents with quality service delivery.

“The suspects will be arraigned upon conclusion of investigation.”
