National Auditor of the All Progressives Congress (APC) George Moghalu has offset the medical bills of a widow’s son admitted at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) in Nnewi, Anambra State.
Mrs. Blessing Nwafor said her 20-month-old son, Amara, has a tiny urinary organ which made him unable to urinate. Surgery was performed on the baby to rectify the complications.
Nwafor said they had been at the hospital for about three months after the surgery following their inability to offset the bill of N202,702.84.
She said: “As I wept in a state of confusion because I have no means of raising the money, someone who came to the hospital asked me what the matter was. When I told him, he gave me a number to call and they immediately responded to my distress and paid the bill for us to go.”
Nwafor, a native of Onueke in Ebonyi State, and a petty trader in Nnewi, thanked Moghalu for rescuing her from financial embarrassment, and prayed for God’s blessings on her benefactor.
Director of the foundation Rev. Uche Ibeabuchi, who handed over N213,000 to the hospital officials for the bill and other miscellaneous spending, said it was not the first time the body was doing such gesture.
He said: “The foundation has been doing the gesture to many indigents in society since its existence in 2014. The mission of the foundation is to rescue and empower indigents and less-privileged in Anambra and beyond.”
