Monarch gets award of excellence

THE Rotary Club of Ibadan Onireke Neighbourhood on Sunday honoured Aholu Menu-Toyi 1, the Akran of Badagry, with the award of excellence for his contributions to national development.

The President of the club, Rotarian Adedotun Amori, told reporters in Badagry, Lagos that Rotary was at the coastal town to honour the monarch in recognition of his contributions towards the furtherance of Rotary ideals.

He said the club honoured the royal father and presented him with the certificate of excellence for his contributions to the development of Badagry, Lagos State and Nigeria.

Amori said: “Oba Akran is a role model to us. He has done a lot for the town. He is an exemplary leader and people should learn from his great work.

“We know what Badagry is to Nigeria. The first storey building in the country was built in Badagry. Christianity came to the country through the town. His Royal Majesty has been on the throne for 42 years. He has been there since 1977.”
