Monarch urges Yoruba to embrace culture

THE traditional Head of Oba Orisa and Asa Worldwide, Oba Adewale Eletu, has advised the Yoruba at home and in the diaspora to embrace their traditional religion.

He spoke ahead of the annual Igbairunmole celebration holding tomorrow at Awoyaya, in Ibeju Lekki.

He said foreign religions have negative impact in terms of dressing and behaviour, “thus leading to immorality among our youths.”

Eletu urged Yoruba monarchs “to promote our culture and religion, to encourage our youths to know a lot about our custom.”

He said: “The Igbairunmole festival comes up every year and our members from the Yoruba race converge here for the annual celebration. The importance of the festival is to remember our forefathers.”

The monarch advised the government to support traditional worshippers and declare a public holiday, “to enable us celebrate our annual festival.”
