Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa and Samuel Chukwueze have both lamented the absence of their ever-supportive Nigerian fans at the upcoming Friday’s Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin against Sierra Leone.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) as part of the COVID-19 protocols have announced a blanket ban on the fans and journalists with only designated officials and players are expected at the stadium across all match venues on the continent.
“I think for me and the team is very sad playing without the fans and especially for me playing in Benin which is the home town of my mother,” explained Musa.“ I would have loved to see my family members cheering me on. But there is nothing we can do because of the situation in the country with the pandemic and we have to play like that.”

Speaking in the same vein in Lagos en route to Benin after his appearance along with Paul Onuachu at the unveiling of CIG Motors as the Official Automobile of NFF, Chukwueze noted: “Playing without fans is not going to be easy. It is going to be difficult especially without the cheering from the fans. But I think the most important thing for us is to win the game.”
The Villarreal winger said the Super Eagles will be going for wins in the double header against the Leone Stars , promising to put up his scoring boots for the national team.
“ This is a very important game for us and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) because if we win the two matches, I think we have qualified for AFCON ,” the 21-year-old said.“ This will help our confidence going into the World Cup qualifiers. I think this game is very important for everybody as Nigerians love football.
He stated further:“ “I need to start scoring goals for the super Eagles and I have been working on it. Sometimes , it does not work out but I’ve tried to work hard on it.”
