Musicians should draw more attention to society’s problems, says Olatilo

Veteran broadcaster, Bisi Olatilo has advised Nigerian music stars to use their influence and music to draw more attention to the problems the country is facing.

In an exclusive chat with The Nation, he said musicians do not need to insult anyone before drawing attention to the nation’s problems in their songs.

“They do not have to do that, Raskimono did he insult anyone? he did not insult anyone but he was drawing attention to the problems that we have, that is the way to do it. Don’t go all out and begin to curse someone because you might need that someone tomorrow,” he said.

The Sexagenarian recalled how he had supported upcoming artists, who are now superstars, during his days on radio. He added that after he left the radio station musicians used to say on interviews that he was one of the broadcasters who didn’t take money but rather give them money.

He also recalled how he and entertainers used to gather at a joint called ‘Floating Buka’ on Victoria Island to relax and how singer Buchi used to entertain them.
