Chairman, Board of Trustees of the National Association of Nigerian Traditional Medicine Practitioners (NANTMP) Adamu Bashiru has dispelled insinuations that the association has been dissolved by the Federal Ministry of Health.
According to him, members of the BoT met with the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, who said the ministry had no such plan.
Adamu described the insinuations as a calculated attempt to weaken the association to pave way for another, insisting that NANTMP remains the umbrella body recognised by the Ministry of Health for medical practitioners in the country.
The chairman, who spoke during a southwest summit of the association in Osogbo, accused former president Omon Oleabhiele and some other executive members of being behind the falsehood, having lost at a High Court in Lagos.
According to him, Oleabhiele didn’t want to relinquish power after the expiration of their tenure, which the members kicked against.
He said: “Going against this was the offense we committed. They took us to the Lagos High Court and the verdict was in our favour. We’ve held several meetings with Prof. Adewole, who gave us his words.
“The former president and his cohorts see the position as an avenue to earn a living since they no longer have a product of their own in the market. While they were in office, they embezzled our money. They’re desperate to get back to power that is why they have been peddling falsehood so that NANTMP will collapse and launch theirs.”
