The Nigerian Navy yesterday approved the establishment of Kano Naval Base. The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice-Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo disclosed this when he visited Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje in his office yesterday.
The Navy also announced the appointment of Captain Muhammad Abubakar Alhassan as Acting Commander of the Kano Naval Base.
The approval for the establishment of a naval base in Kano comes as a response to Ganduje’s earlier request for the Nigerian Navy visibility in the state, which he said would strengthen the security of the state considered as the economic nerve centre of Northern Nigeria and West African countries.
Ganduje allocated 100 hectares of land for the new Naval Base in the state.
Gambo and other naval officers were in Kano for the Chief of Naval Staff’s Annual Conference 2021, holding from yesterday to Saturday.
