The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has begun its skill acquisition training in Sustainable Agricultural Development Training Scheme (SADTS), targeted at 50 unemployed youths in Ekiti State.
The skill acquisition covers training in livestock production, crop production, business plan, marketing and entrepreneur training.
Also, the Directorate under the Environmental Beautification Training Scheme (EBTS) empowered 11 beneficiaries with tools and cash gift to start up their businesses.
Speaking at the orientation ceremony for the beneficiaries in Ado-Ekiti, the NDE Director General, Dr. Nasiru Ladan, said the programme was purposefully designed to create sustainable employment for the unemployed youths with a view to reducing reliance on white collar jobs.
Ladan, represented by Mrs. Sade Uche and Mrs. Onuka Josephine, stressed that the mandate of the Directorate was to banish poverty through creation of job opportunities for the unemployed youth.
He said the training would make the youth to generate sustainable incomes and create jobs, noting that it was part of the directorate’s renewed effort to meet the ever increasing challenges of job creation in the country.
The director general said the training was part of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration’s agenda for agriculture to work with key stakeholders and build an agro business economy, capable of delivering sustained prosperity by meeting domestic food security goals, generating exports and supporting sustainable income and job growth.
