The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has advised the Bayelsa State government to take proactive measures to mitigate the impending floods in the state as the rainy season gets to its peak.

NEMA’s Director-General, AVM Muhammadu Muhammed (retd.), spoke yesterday in Yenagoa, the state capital, during a flood advocacy visit to Governor Douye Diri and the Central Naval Command of the Nigerian Navy.

The Southsouth Response Unit comprises Edo, Delta and Bayelsa states.

Muhammed, who was represented by the agency’s Deputy Director for Planning, Research and Forecast, Mrs. Fatima Kazeem, said Bayelsa is among the states to witness flooding, going by the 2020 seasonal rainfall prediction and the annual flood outlook.
