In its bid to reduce the spate of insecurity in Niger State, the state government will spend the sum of N252 million for the purchase of security gadgets in 2022.

The state government also earmarked N38.5 billion for the reconstruction of 10 roads across Niger State to enable security agencies to provide security for the rural dwellers.

The State Commissioner for Finance, Alhaji Abubakar Zakari disclosed this while giving the breakdown of the 2022 budget in Minna yesterday.

According to Zakari, the state cannot develop or achieve anything if the security situation in the state continues to remain the way it is.

He noted that road networks are critical towards combating insecurity, adding that if there are no roads, the security agencies will be handicapped in providing security for those affected by banditry and other security challenges in the state.

“Fighting insecurity cannot be achieved if the roads are bad.  The government has captured 10 critical roads across the state in the 2022 budget which will cost the government over N38.5 billion, in addition to completing the ongoing ones.

“If the government must fight insecurity, then roads becomes a priority. You cannot fight insecurity without good roads network.”
