The Zamfara State government yesterday said it had no plan to shut down the communications network as interpreted from a recent remark by Governor Bello Matawalle.

It said the governor had neither announced the shutdown of telecommunications services nor requested the discharging agency to implement any such order.

He was reacting to last Saturday’s abduction of 29 mobile phone businesspersons by gunmen and the recent attacks in Kanoma, Bingi and Tsafe areas of the state.

The government in a statement by his Special Adviser Media, Zailani Baffa, said the clarification was necessary to clear a misconception about the remarks on the possible shutdown of communications.

It said the remark had generated a trending, disturbing rumour.
