The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Lagos State at the weekend evacuated about 20 sacks of petrol in the Akute-Odo/Aruwajoye boundary towns.
The products are suspected to have been stolen. Some 25litre kegs were also retrieved from the scene.
A statement by the command’s spokesman, Seun Abolurin, said the operation was done about 01.25hrs of July 31 after the command received intelligence of suspected vandalism in the area.
The statement reads: “The team which cracked the operation was led by Commander, Right of Way, Deputy Superintendent of Corps ( DSC) Gbenga Akinnibosun. The vandals, on sighting the officers, ran away. The Anti – Vandal Unit of the Command was also drafted to render back up to the operatives at the scene.
“20 thick nylons wrapped with sacks and loaded with petrol were evacuated and the 25litre kegs destroyed. The evacuated products were taken to the state command for further investigations and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation ( NNPC) contacted for proper evacuation of the products.
