The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus has described the entry of the Governor of Edo state, Godwin Obaseki into main opposition party an act of God.
Asking the governor to be guided while in the PDP, Secondus said Obaseki would soon realise that he did not make a mistake by joining the party.
In a statement issued in Abuja by his media adviser, Ike Abonyi, the party chairman was also quoted to have described the PDP as a party of responsible people who respect and appreciate intellect and work by the rules and constitution of the party.
“There is nothing to be arrogant about power for anyone who knows God and here in PDP, we are guided by this fact”.
The National Chairman was said to have received Obaseki at the Legacy House, the party’s campaign headquarters in Abuja.
According to him, the application for waiver for Obaseki came from his ward in Edo state and was recommended and endorsed by the various organs of the party in the state. By virtue so the waiver, Obaseki can vote and seek election on the platform of the PDP. The gesture was also extended to his deputy, Philip Shuaibu who also defected with the governor.
The statement quoted Obaseki to have thanked God for joining the PDP and that he was happy to have joined the party.
“From what I saw in Benin City today after I joined this party, the increased goodwill, the excitement of the people from all walks of life from their balcony, I told myself no wonder?”, Obaseki was quoted to have said.
He was further quoted to have said that he had realised the difference between the PDP and the All Progressives Congress (APC) which he dumped a few days ago.
The governor was said to have declared that the PDP is a part of true democrats with positive disposition and cohesion who listen and try to understand members.
“What I have seen here is a far cry from the confusion and commotion from the other side and has left me to wonder why I didn’t have this opportunity before now.

“When I met the National Chairman, Prince Secondus, I was shocked at his humility and unassuming disposition; how he told me he would consult because the decision will come from my people and not him. But where I am coming from, it wasn’t so”, he was quoted to have said.
The governor was reported to have assured the PDP leaders of his full cooperation, saying “What I am bringing, am coming with freshness, I am going to lead a campaign at all levels to enhance the membership of this party in the state”.
He was further quoted to have told the party leaders that the challenge ahead for the country is worrisome, following the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic that has disrupted the soci-political and economic live of the world.
“The road ahead is not going to be easy with the obvious fall in oil revenue, which our economy depends on. But I want to assure you that with me, you have an equipped person with the energy”, he was quoted to have said.
