Ogiame Ikenwoli’s passage: Warri kingdom now receiving visitors

The regent of Warri kingdom, in Delta state, on Wednesday began receiving individuals and organisations who wish to pay condolence visits over the passage of His Majesty, Ogiame Ikenwoli.

Prospective visitors are being urged to contact the director of the Warri Palace Administration, Chief Clement Maleghemi, to schedule their visits.

In a press statement circulated to newsmen, Wednesday, the Warri Council of Chiefs announced that the last phase of passage rites will commence in the second week of June and last for 14 days.

The statement was signed by the Iyatsere of Warri Kingdom, Chief Johnson Amatserunleghe who doubles as the chairman of the Ojoyesan, as well as Warri council of chiefs and its secretary, Chief Dr. Eugene Ikomi.

According to the statement, the regent, Prince Emmanuel Okotie-Eboh, alongside other princes and chiefs will be at the palace in Warri, to receive those coming to condole with the Itsekiri nation.

The statement added that the Olu Advisory Council, Ojoyesan ojisan, is satisfied with the measure of progress being accomplished towards the conclusion of the process leading to the coronation of the 21st Olu of Warri.

Parts of the statement said, “the Olu of Warri designate has since entered into Idaniken which is the last major phase of his pre-coronation engagements.

“Following this also is the last phase of the rites of passage ceremonies of the immediate past Olu of Warri, His Majesty Ikenwoli.

“This will commence in the second week of June and will be for a period of 14 days, during which the rich culture of our people will be displayed to the delight of all who would want to relish same.

“The regent, Prince Emmanuel Okotie-Eboh, has also taken his position in the palace in Warri, to receive all who would come on condolence visits to identify with the Itsekiri nation at this time of our mourning. Some chiefs and princes will also be with him, on hand to receive such visitors, all of whom are highly esteemed.

“The Director of Palace Administration, Chief Clement Maleghemi, the Udefi of Warri will gladly schedule all such visitors who would have previously contacted his office for that purpose.”

Recall that the Omoba, Prince ‘Tsola Emiko proceeded on the compulsory 90-day isolation, Idaniken, last Monday, May 11, as part of the pre-coronation traditional rites.
