Old Students of Igbo-Owu Senior Secondary School, Mushin (1992 set) have inaugurated a renovated well-equipped ICT laboratory as a gesture of giving back to their alma mater.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the renovated ICT laboratory donated by the old students included sets of computer, Wifi, projectors and 3.5 KVA generator, all worth over N8million.
Mrs Ireolu Amao, Chairperson of the 1992 set, led other members of the association to the ceremony.
The Principal of the school, Mrs Victoria Ilori, some old and present students, also attended the ceremony held at the school premises in Mushin, Lagos on Monday.
Speaking during the ceremony, Amao said the donation was a way of giving back to the school to encourage the junior ones and ensure that they have the best.
“We also want them to have the mind of giving back when they are out of the school. This is a way of encouraging them to do better and be sure that they can always strive hard to achieve the best in future.
“That is why we have decided to upgrade the ICT department, because the world now revolves around modern day technology and we don’t want them to lag behind.
“We want them to be ahead of what is happening around them and across the nation and the world at large. We don’t want them to study in abstract like the way we studied during our time,” he said.
The 1992 set chairperson, therefore, urged the students, teachers and the school to use the equipment optimally.
“Technology is a new tool that is moving the world round to greater achievements and we hope that the facilities provided will be able to aid your education positively,”she advised.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary/ Tutor General of Education District VI, Mrs Oludara Okelola, appreciated the old students for partnering with government to ensure that the structure is not just empty, but becomes an asset to the students and the school.
Represented by Mr Amadu Oluwole, the permanent secretary solicited more support from all stakeholders, noting that government alone cannot shoulder the issue of education.
