The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi yesterday conferred a chieftaincy title ranked after her queen, Princess Firdaus on the granddaughter of former Emir of Kano, Sanusi, Asmau Haruna after marrying one of her chiefs.

Asmau who got married to the Otun Oba of Iwo land, Chief Sikiru Atanda at the weekend was accompanied by the wife of Lamido Sanusi, Sadiya, and her sister, Ramala Ado-Sanusi among other dignitaries.

According to him, “Everything starts from the traditional leaders. They lead by example to show love to everyone regardless of where they come from and this is what we are doing. The beauty of this country is our diverse culture and ethnicity and we still come together. We are taking a big step because this is what the foundation of Nigeria is built on.

“Traditional leaders should adopt every citizen that lives in their land as their own. They should not discriminate. When traditional leaders do that in this country, the love will not be lost.”

Oluwo noted “I’m bringing back the heritage of Iwo that we accommodate everyone and I want us to know that a town is not made up of itself. There are migrants who should be accommodated at all times. Today, the culture of the Yorubas is traveling to the north. There are many northerners here and they have witnessed how we do our things here.”

In her remark Ramala Sanusi, said, “The conferment of the chieftaincy on our daughter will further strengthen the relationship of Yoruba and the Hausa and it will engender national integration.”
