    President Bola Tinubu and the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, on Sunday joined other dignitaries at Iwo town to celebrate Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Rasheed Akanbi, as he marked 10 years on the throne of his forebears.

    At the event held at his palace in Iwo, they described Oluwo as a people-oriented monarch whose contribution fosters national unity since he ascended the throne.

    Speaking at the event, Tinubu, who was represented by the Director-General of Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, Olasunkami Tegbe, noted that the past decade under his reign has been marked by peace, cultural revival, and community development.

    He said, Mr President joins sons and daughters of Iwo land as well as associates of the influential monarch in celebrating this special occasion. Mr President notes the tremendous impact and progressive streak of Oluwo in the past decade of his accession to the throne. You can hardly ignore his dynamism and his leadership and the fact that the people love him.”

    Also, Jibrin said, “What the king, Oluwo, has been doing since his ascension to the throne transcends Iwo; you are very instrumental in strengthening our unity and integration as a nation.”

    He promised to facilitate the construction of a modern palace for Oluwo and also ensure that Federal government roads in his kingdom are injected into the budget.

    Earlier, the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, who was represented by the Commissioner for Water Resources, Sunday Oroniyi, assured that no amount of intimidation would remove him from his stool.

    In his remark, the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, described his reign as an exemplary model that bridges the gap between traditionality and modernity.

    The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has been appointed as the Chancellor of Westland University, Iwo, Osun State.

    The university management announced the appointment on Tuesday, describing it as a recognition of the monarch’s unwavering commitment to promoting quality education among Nigerian youths.

    In a letter signed by the registrar, Olalekan Olaosebikan, on behalf of the university’s governing council led by Dr. (Mrs.) Esther Adepoju, the institution said Oba Akanbi’s leadership and dedication to educational development made him the ideal choice for the position.

    The letter read: “It is with great honour and respect that I write on behalf of the Council of Westland University, Iwo, to inform Your Imperial Majesty of your nomination and appointment as the Chancellor of Westland University, Iwo, Osun State, for a term of five years.

    “Your Imperial Majesty’s leadership, wisdom, and commitment to quality education for our teeming youth make you an ideal candidate for this position. We believe that your royal guidance will significantly contribute to our university’s growth and development.”

    According to the management, Oba Akanbi is expected to provide visionary leadership, guide the university’s academic and administrative activities, and represent the institution with distinction.

    The statement added, “Your Majesty will also provide strategic direction and oversight to the university, preside over convocation ceremonies and other assemblies, and advocate for the university’s interests while fostering partnerships and collaborations.

    “We look forward to working closely with Your Imperial Majesty as we congratulate you on this well-deserved appointment.”

    Eight Osun monarch threaten Oluwo over ‘false’ accusation against Ooni

    Eight traditional rulers in Ife North Local Government Area of Osun State on Thursday threatened legal action against Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi. 

    They also ssued 21-day ultimatum to the monarch to withdraw the alleged false accusation against Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi. 

    The monarchs, including the Alasipa of Asipa, Oba Mufutau Oyekanmi; Olulamokun of Yakoyo, Oba Mesharch Oyediran, Alakinlaalu of Akinlaalu, Oba Oluwabusola Oloyede, among others, under the aegis of Origbo Meje Obas, led by the Salu of Edunabon, Oba Kehinde Adesoji, flayed the allegation by Oluwo that Oba Ogunwusi attempted to poison him in a viral video on social media. 

    Oba Adesoji held that Oluwo’s conduct amounted to insult and gross disrespect to the sacred throne of Oduduwa, describing his allegations against Ooni as criminal defamation and unbecoming of a traditional ruler.

    He recalled the activities of Oluwo in the past, which led to his suspension from the meetings of the Osun State Council of Obas after assaulting the Agbowu of Ogbaagba during a peace meeting. 

    He insisted that the recent outbursts of the Oluwo were aimed at ridiculing the institution of traditional leadership in Yorubaland, warning that such behaviour would no longer be tolerated.

    His words: “Oluwo has 21 days to write to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to substantiate his allegations or retract them publicly. Failure to do so will leave us with no choice but to take legal action against him at the expiration of this ultimatum.” 

    The monarchs noted that the Ooni of Ife remains the head of all traditional rulers in Yorubaland, describing the Oluwo’s continued outbursts as attempts to gain undue attention. 

    They stressed that no amount of unruly conduct from the Oluwo of Iwo would diminish the supremacy of the sacred stool of Oduduwa.

    …as Ladoja ends traditional rites at Osemeji

    Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade; Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Olaoye Ghandi; Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Rasheed Akanbi; Olugbo of Ugbo, Oba Akinruntan, and other prominent traditional rulers are at Mapo Hall, awaiting President Bola Tinubu for the coronation of Oba Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.

    Oba Ladoja earlier completed the necessary traditional rites at the Osemeji shrine, Oja’ba, under the supervision of the Abore of Ibadanland.

    Meanwhile, Governor Seyi Makinde has led a delegation—including Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, alongside federal and state lawmakers—to Ladoke Akintola International Airport to receive President Tinubu.

    The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has said the reign of the Olubadan-designate, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, will be monumental for Ibadan owing to his experience as a former governor of Oyo State.

    In a congratulatory message on Thursday, Oba Akanbi highlighted the historic ties between Iwo land and Ibadan, noting his own maternal connection to Ibadan. 

    He added that Ladoja’s ascension would further strengthen cooperation between the two ancient cities.

    The monarch described Ladoja as a phenomenal personality whose agility and wealth of experience would make a lasting impact on the Ibadan traditional institution.

    He said, “I congratulate the good people of Ibadan most especially the Olubadan-Designate, Oba Rashidi Ladoja. His agility and wealth of experience as a former Governor of Oyo State will distinguish him. He will be the first former Governor to become Olubadan. I have strong hope in his ability to make a difference and make a monumental Olubadan in history”

    “My maternal affinity and ancient collaborative cooperation between Ibadan and Iwo have always been strong and unbreakable. The understanding between Ibadan and Iwo is ageless. This accounted for why many Iwoland warriors were accommodated in Ibadan. We are inseparable to date”

    Oluwo commended the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde for supporting the traditional institution and tasked the people of Ibadan to support the new Olubadan. 

    “Eminent sons and daughters of Ibadan must rally support for Oba Ladoja to constructively conduct the affairs of Ibadan to an enviable height,” he said.

    Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi and the Yoruba Council Of Elders(YCE) have partnered to tackle Yoruba culture extinction and reorientate the tradition of the tribe. 

    Oluwo during a visit by delegates of YCE led by their National President, Chief Ajibade Oyekan, to his palace, also commended its leadership for their holistic interest to protect Yoruba sovereignty.

    He said: “The council must caution Yoruba traditional rulers ascribing the etymology of other tribes to the Yorubas, while I am committed to protect Yoruba race and its appurtenance from infiltration such as deity worshipping by kings, land grabbing and traditional lording.

    “I commend the leadership of YCE for their love-rooted interest for the sovereignty of Yorubaland and cohesion amongst Yoruba Traditional Rulers and Yoruba race by extension. 

    “You have acted holistically. I love discussion solutions which is what they came for. I’m a cleaner. As a cleaner, you have to clean your house. I’m ready to work with you to clean Yoruba race. Yorubas are great people with excellent culture. I’m proud of Yoruba Council of Elders thoughtfulness, to visit and deliberate. This is a great move and tells a good future for the Yorubas.”

    Speaking after the visitation, the YCE National President, Chief Ajibade Oyekan, stated the move becomes necessary to promote Yoruba traditional council cohesion and discuss the means to checkmate the disproportionate losing of Yoruba land to strangers.

    “We want other traditional rulers to also be dynamic, to be opened to change. Not crazy change but good change. There were many things our father did in the past, no more of such. We want our monarchs to hold our culture and ensure they are dynamic to meet up with modern reality and promote tourism. It’s only when we upgrade that it can be attracted to and accepted by modern blood.”

    The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has urged Federal and State Government to increase traditional rulers’ share from local government allocation to 20 percent.

    Speaking shortly after the Police Community Relations Committee(PCRC), Osun State appointed him as the Royal Patron in his palace, Akanbo said traditional rulers play a vital role in security and intelligence gathering. 
    According to him: “When it comes to the community, the kings are the first. If the king is empowered, the police are empowered, and the PCRC’s work becomes easier and more effective. Unfortunately, traditional rulers are not properly funded. We spend from our resources to serve our people. That’s why I’m appealing to the government to increase our share from the LG allocation to at least 20 per cent.”

    He lamented the current allocation to traditional rulers is less than 5%, which he described as grossly inadequate. 

    The Oluwo commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for his efforts in ensuring that NIgeria’s future is secured through his policies. 

    PCRC Chairman in Osun State, Popoola Ogundoyin said: “We confer the Royal Patron role on Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Akanbi because he is connected and has been an advocate for community security. He will further use this new assignment to influence support for the policing of our communities in the State.”

    The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has lauded the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, for tackling the porous border in the country.

    Oluwo, in a statement on Tuesday, noted that effective monitoring of the Nigerian border under Adeniyi has improved the security of the country.

    He said, “In recent times, since the appointment of Adeniyi as CG Customs, Nigeria’s insecurity challenge has been decimated, one of the results of the prevention of the porous border.

    “Adebiyi’s management of borders has contributed immensely to the infrastructural development of Nigeria, accruing huge revenue unprecedented in the history of Nigeria, which forms an elephant share of the physical projects executed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

    “His achievements on the home front were rewarded with an international assignment as the Chairman of the World Customs Organisation. He has been celebrated in the world; he should be honoured at home.”

    He added, “As a disciplined, exposed and experienced officer, Adeniyi has the practical architecture of Nigeria’s borders, and embraced digital monitoring, which has placed him above many.

    “He has prevented border leakages and aborted economic sabotage. His wealth of experience earned him the recently accomplished feat as the first Nigerian CGC to head the World Customs Organisation.”

    The royal families and princes have defended the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, against allegations of exhuming the remains of former kings when he took the throne.

    The Nation recalled that a youth group who claimed they were from royal families led by one Osunwo alleged that Oluwo, Oba Akanbi, supervised the exhumation of the remains of past kings and threw away their bones.

    However, the princes and compound heads of Iwo, addressing newsmen at the Oluwo’s palace, described the Osunwo-led youth group as disgruntled elements who are parading themselves as representatives of the royal family.

    Speaking on behalf of the princes and compound heads, Prince Wasiu Modunle said, “We are not unaware of a few youths parading themselves as spokespeople for Iwo princes. We state unequivocally that they have no right or recognition to do so. Their allegations against our king are frivolous and a deliberate attempt to blackmail Oba Akanbi,” he said.

    On the controversial claim that the remains of past Oluwos were relocated or tampered with, he explained that upon his ascension, Oba Akanbi invited royal family members to help identify the neglected graveyards of past kings.

    He said, “The graves, then in poor condition and surrounded by fetish items, were later renovated and tiled by Oba Akanbi.

    “There was no trace of graves behind the old palace when Oba Akanbi ascended the throne. It was he who called on the princes to help locate them. The identified ones were in a dilapidated state. Tadese’s grave, the most recent, was marked with old blocks. Oluwo renovated them with dignity. There was never a time the remains were moved,” the statement clarified.

    He issued a 48-hour ultimatum to one Adedoja Osunwo, demanding that he provide evidence to back his claim of relocation of royal remains or face legal consequences.

    The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi has urged Nigerians to continue praying for President Bola Tinubu and allow him do second term to perfect the reforms he introduced. 

    Oba Akanbi speaking at the Iwo Eid prayer ground Eid likened Tinubu’s reforms to the sacrifice made by Prophet Ibraheem that graduated into the celebration of Eid el Kabir.

    According to him, the reforms by the President are necessary to rebuild Nigeria, the failure by past leaders to confront devil contributed immensely to a retarded economic hardship witnessed in the past years.

    He said: “Many past presidents avoided the reality and pushed Nigerians to the brim of stagnancy until the enthronement of a courageous president defeating lies and promoting reality.

    “The obligation by reasonable Nigerians is to embrace and promote the progressive train to restore the glory of Nigeria. Patriotic Nigerians have a dare duty of promoting reality by supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second term in office. The support is necessary to restore the lost glory of Nigeria through aggressive reform.

    “President Tinubu is the president of many firsts. He manifested his reform by confronting devils militating against the growth and development of Nigeria. President. A few of the wise men who criticized him before his emergence are embracing his reform. We will all laugh at the end”

    “He is laying a template for successive administrations. He has demonstrated competency being the first Nigerian president to dare the reality. He places honour above distractions. Whoever trying to stop the greatness of Nigeria will be consumed by the moving train anchors by the president. It’s not a business as usual. Nigeria must be great”
