‘Omo-Agege should apologise to Deltans to get their support’

An Asaba, Delta State-based social commentator, Sir Rowland Umeadi, has advised the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, to apologise to the people if he wants their support in next year’s general elections.

In a statement, Umeadi said Omo-Agege abandoned the people immediately after he was elected to represent Delta Central in the National Assembly and is now reaching out to them because he wants their backing in the election.

He wondered whether Omo-Agege has just woken up from slumber because Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has been unleashing all manner of tyrannical policies in the last seven years, which have not only impoverished workers in the state civil service but the entire Deltans.

Umeadi’s statement reads: “Where was Omo-Agege who is the Deputy Senate President since Okowa has been dishing out his wicked policies in the past seven years? These are policies that have not only brought death to many people but have also pushed many others below the poverty line. Where was he?

“If the likes of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu had kept quiet while the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) was at the helm of affairs because he is comfortable with his Southwest, who would have salvaged Nigeria from the locust?

“But what did Tinubu do? He championed the emergence of the APC and used people like the Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed to expose the inadequacies of the PDP government under former President Goodluck Jonathan. That was the game changer.

“If Omo-Agege had similarly used his position as the Deputy Senate President to continually expose the tyrannical leadership of Ifeanyi Okowa for the past seven years through the media, he would not today need to start campaigning. You don’t need to wait for the campaign period as he is doing now to start telling us Deltans that the leadership of Okowa is tyrannical. We know because it is we Okowa visited the hell on. So, Omo-Agege is not telling us something new.

“It is only in Delta State retirees are owed over seven years’ pension. It is only in Delta State the workers have been denied their promotion areas since 2018. Even though the labour leaders colluded with Okowa to do all this, where were Omo-Agege and the APC? I am saying this because I feel aggrieved as a Deltan watching from the sideline. At least, it is the duty of the opposition party to keep the government of the day on its toes. But, for the past seven years, Okowa has been riding roughshod over Deltans and Omo-Agege did not deem it fit to speak against such acts.

“Deltans were abandoned to Okowa’s whims and caprices unchallenged. For me, that is bad politics. Tinubu who fought the battle that brought the government APC member members, including Omo-Agege, are enjoying today. We Deltans are not happy with Omo-Agege and his brand of politics.”
