Following his early exit in the men’s singles table tennis event of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Olajide Omotayo has taken solace in the experience he garnered from competing in his debut at the games.

Omotayo was shown the exit in the first round by Portugal’s Apolonia Tiago in the encounter dominated by the European.

“I am happy to be part of Tokyo and I am proud of myself especially playing alongside top players like Quadri Aruna, Olufunke Oshonaike, and Offiong Edem, as well as under the coach Segun Toriola.

“I am happy to be an Olympian. The dream of being an Olympian has come to pass and I am hoping that I will be a medalist someday. I think playing against some of the best players in the world is a good experience for me as I just need to redouble my efforts and continue to work harder. I want to thank NTTF for their support,” Omotayo said.

He, however, said: “My next target is to look forward to playing for my new club in France and I hope playing in such a top league will improve my game to play well as major events like the Olympic Games.”
