SIR: On Monday October 18, the ever smiling Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode inaugurated the newly appointed members of the State Executive Council, comprising 23 commissioners and 14 Special Advisers. The 37-man team according to reports was specially selected to perform the change magic in Lagos State. The change that will guarantee the “Lagos Dream”, by maximizing the “massive potentials” of Lagos State as well as making the state globally competitive.
All Progressive Grand Alliance, Lagos State Chapter commends the governor for the painstaking selection process, as the swearing in of the council marks the commencement of his administrations scorecard.
However, we observe that the list of the new executive council is not a true reflection of Lagos State’s cosmopolitan environment; considering the fact that lots of interest groups, especially Ndigbo in APC worked tirelessly to ensure that Ambode emerged as the governor of Lagos State.
Why are Ndigbos in APC excluded from Governor Ambode’s cabinet? The conspicuous absence of Ndigbo in APC government in Lagos State calls for a deep reflection. Their lack of visibility in the new state executive council is worrisome and dumbfounding.
We implore the amiable Governor to spice up his political appointments, going forward, with a robust mix of the Alhaji Abdulkarims, the Sir Michaels and the Otunba Sangobowales of Lagos State, so that all Lagosians will have a sense of belonging, irrespective of creed and colour.
