SIR: Many times security alerts have been issued only by the western countries as a routine measure to highlight possible attacks by terror organisations and for that particular country to take proactive measures to repel them.
The security alerts put out this time has since taken a different shape especially with the manner the government reacted. The way and manner the security alert was issued has since been called to question in many quarters.
Geopolitical considerations cannot be discountenanced here. We must be mindful of geopolitics at play taking into account the Russian -Ukraine war presently raging and causing spiralling effects on prices of goods and services, food shortages, high cost of energy, hunger and unrest around the world.
The war no doubt has polarised the world into two camps diametrically opposed to each other. Efforts have been made by the West to enlist the support of many countries including African countries that have hitherto stayed on the side lines. Some countries like South Africa are leaning towards Russia while Nigeria has only called for caution and this is not finding comfort with the West which has overtime seen Nigeria as dominant emerging economic power in the world. Suddenly, it is like if Nigeria is not with them, they must whip up internal crisis to keep her busy until she retraced her steps.

Let us not also forget quickly that all of these are coming on the heels of mind boggling revelations fingering the United States as the destination of the bulk of Nigeria’s stolen crude oil amongst other countries mentioned. Going further also is the arms deal with the Russians.
The worry is that this latest security alert is coming on the back of the enormous mop up that our security forces have undertaken over the months. Successes are being recorded and Nigerians can attest to the efforts of our security forces.
While the government should not entirely dismiss the threat, we urge the security forces to continue to do what they know how best to do. Threats have always been there and it will continue to be there. We praise the security forces achievements in the discharge of their duties for keeping all of us safe.
Nigerians should remain vigilant at all times and be our brothers’ keeper, interrogate suspicious movement of persons around our neighbourhood, be handy with our cell phones at all times.
