The Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) has denied rumours it cancelled the scheduled local government elections.
It, however, said the April 18 set for the polls was no longer feasible because of the COVID-19 pandemic. ODIEC said it decided to suspend the election till the situation improves.
Head of Media and Publicity Rotimi Olorunfemi, in a statement, said the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) and other partners that should train its workers and ad hoc workers had shut down their offices due to the outbreak of Coronavirus.

Olorunfemi said the elections have not been aborted or cancelled, but rescheduled for a date to be announced later.
The statement reads: “The commission assures of its readiness to start the process again within the shortest possible time as soon as there is an improvement in the situation, and as we await further government directives on the COVID-19 pandemic and efforts to contain it…”
