Ooni’s motorised fumigator cause stir

AN Islamic human rights organisation, Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has praised the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, for donating locally-motorised modular fumigators and drones to some states as part of his contributions to the fight against COVID-19.

MURIC’s Director Prof Ishaq Akintola, in a chat, said Oba Ogunwusi’s initiative was impressive. Akintola described the ruler as a shining example of a proactive monarch, who should be emulated by other rulers in the country.

He said: “He has broken the myth of the redundancy of the traditional institution not only in Nigeria but in Africa. The traditional ruler of Ile-Ife has also given a practical example of how traditional rulers can join hands with the government in providing solutions to problems arising in our society.

In particular, he has shown vividly how Nigerians and, indeed Africans, can look inward for remedies to tackle their problems instead of waiting for Europe and America for panacea that may never come…
