Omooba Dotun Babayemi, the governorship candidate of the Osun State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), remains the legally recognised standard- bearer of the party for the July 16 election, a lawyer, Edmund Biriomoni, has said.
He gave the clarification while speaking with reporters against the backdrop of the sine dine adjournment of an Osun State High Court sitting in Ijebu-Jesa, presided over by Justice Adeyinka Aderibigbe, in a case between Ademola Adedokun and 29 others against the PDP and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Biriomoni derided those jubilating as being ignorant of the position of the law, insisting that “their jubilation amounts to self-delusion and foolishness. These people have killed themselves and have at the same time, locked the door against themselves.”
The lawyer said procedurally, the Ademola Adeleke group had taken wrong steps, adding that “there are ways to go in this kind of a route, but unfortunately, they have got everything wrong and wasted their own time.”
Senator Adeleke, however, said he would be the standard-bearer.
A statement by the Director, Media and Strategy of Ademola Adeleke Campaign Organisation, Olawale Rasheed, said Adeleke is the official PDP candidate, “as the order restraining PDP and INEC from recognising Adeleke lapsed today with Justice Aderibigbe refusing to renew an order recognising the claim of Babayemi to the governorship ticket.”
