Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola has said the state is willing to host one of the six girls’ military schools in the six geopolitical zones.

The governor named Ede as the most suitable host community.

Oyetola spoke when a military delegation, led by Maj.-Gen. Francis Azinta, visited his office in Abeere, Osogbo.

He described Ede as a secure and peaceful community, saying the Command School in the community would be a suitable host.

“I want to thank the Army for counting our state worthy of hosting one of such great institutions. Our state is well-positioned for this.

“We also don’t have to look for virgin land since there is a  Command School in Ede. I’m happy that you acknowledged that our state still remains the most peaceful in the country. Ede is a very secure place for such a school. Our people are also very friendly and accommodating.

“We appreciate the gesture; we are very eager, ready and willing to support this noble project.”

Gen. Azinta said the Army is considering Osun as one of the hosts, being the most peaceful state in the country.

“In 2017, the Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Tukur Tukur Buratai, established the Women Corps. This year, he mooted the idea of establishing the girls’ military schools which will combine academic and military trainings for young women, particularly for those aspiring to take up careers in the military.

“There will be six across each geopolitical zone, one for each. The Army has also resolved that at least 60 per cent of annual enrolment will be from the zone.

“This is the first place we came to in the Southwest; we are considering establishing in the existing command schools. We are also open to the option of a virgin land, provided the state is ready to partner with the military.

The site must not be in a remote part so that it can be accessible to students from different parts of the country since it is a national school.”
