Ogun State Government said yesterday that its resolve to fix the 32 km Sango-Ijoko-Agbado-Akute-Alagbole Road in Ifo Local Government and a section of the Lagos-Sango Ota-Abeokuta Road was not driven by politics of the 2023 general election.
It said it had made efforts in the past to fix some portions of Lagos – Sango Ota-Abeokuta Road, which prompted Governor Dapo Abiodun to visit Abuja at least four times in respect of the state’s determination to tackle the deplorable portion of the road, adding that the Federal Government advised that it could not be done by the state, as it was tied to an existing contract.
Information and Strategy Commissioner Alhaji Waheed Odusile, who made the clarification while fielding questions from reporters at Chief Segun Osoba Press Centre, Abeokuta, recalled that Ogun State Government, in conjunction with Lagos State Government, also jointly requested that the road be given to them to fix because of its strategic importance to both states and the daily pains users experienced due to its deplorable condition.
He said the resolve to begin palliative work on the road from Singer stretch to Toll gate end had nothing to do with politics of 2023 or related matters, as might have been erroneously perceived in some quarters.
Odusile said approval was given by the State Executive Council at its meeting on Monday to begin reconstruction of Sango-Ijoko-Agbado-Akute-Alagbole end of Ogun State to the Yakoyo-Ojodu-Berger end in Lagos, which was began in 2013 but abandoned by the past administration.
He said work would also begin simultaneously on the 7.5km stretch of the Singer-Toll Gate axis of the Abeokuta-Sango-Lagos Expressway, which he described as very deplorable.
Speaking further about the Sango-Ijoko-Agbado-Alagbole-Akute Road, the Commissioner for Works, Ade Adesanya, said complete reconstruction would be carried out on Sango and Yakoyo ends of the road.
