Osun State Panel of Inquiry set up by the government to investigate police brutality and extrajudicial killings, yesterday submitted its report to Governor Adegboyega Oyetola.

Panel Chairman Justice Akin Oladimeji (rtd), presenting the report at the Governor’s Office, Abere, told Oyetola that the panel had reviewed and addressed the 34 petitions received, out of which 13 were struck out for reasons, two were dismissed after hearing and 21 were processed, which were all contained in the report.

“From the petitions reviewed, it was observed that the men of the Nigerian Police Force have been responsible for several problems plaguing the country. There is need for the government to reappraise structural issues such as mode of recruitment of security agents and subjection of appointed officers to psychiatric tests to ascertain their fitness.”

Justice Oladimeji noted that implementation of the report would restore the hope of getting justice for infractions or violations of fundamental human rights as guaranteed and enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Oyetola thanked the panel members for giving their best to comfort the oppressed and strengthen the weak.

He assured the citizens that the government would implement the recommendations of the panel in a manner that would ensure justice.
