Oyetola seeks credible council poll

Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola yesterday swore in members of the State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC).

He urged them to discharge their responsibilities with the fear of God, integrity and patriotism.

The governor enjoined the appointees to improve the rating of the state by conducting free, fair, peaceful and credible elections.

He said: “Members of this commission must appreciate that they are being called to positions of responsibility in a state known for being in the frontline in all human endeavours, including development, peace and security rankings.

“Local government is central to effective governance and equitable development in any nation where the system is practised. It is the third tier of government and the closest to the grassroots.

It is, therefore, pertinent that persons of integrity who have a passion for the people and their welfare are elected into this tier to spread prosperity and development.”

“For our local governments to achieve their aims, elections that will usher leaders into power must be conducted by people who are above board. Conscious of this fact, we have endeavoured to appoint people of unquestionable integrity, impeccable character and flawless antecedent in their private and public lives.”

The Chairman of the election body is Oladunjoye Olusegun Oladitan, a lawyer. Members are Mrs. Abosede Olayemi Omibekun (Osun East), Mr. Rufus Sunday Oyeniran (Osun West), Alhaja Suaibat Bolanle Babalola-Adubi (Osun Central), Mr. Oladosu Gidigbi (Osun East), Mr. Olayinka Akinwumi Ajiboye (Osun West) and Alhaji Wahaab Adeniran Adewoyin (Osun Central).
