The General Manager of the Lagos State Office of Disability Affairs (LASODA), Mr. Dare Dairo, has advised those taking care of children with special needs to be more attentive to them and teach them to be independent.
He gave the advice at the weekend during an event at Alausa, Ikeja.
Dairo said it was organised to sensitise the children and their caregivers to the impact of COVID-19 pandemic.
The LASODA GM, who urged caregivers to get their COVID-19 vaccination, said preventive measures will protect special need children, some of whom, he noted, are being managed for medical conditions.

“We have taken care of adults with disabilities. But as you know that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is a listening and compassionate person, he has impressed it upon us to also extend the hand of fellowship to our children, especially those with special needs, on the need to sensitise them to the impact of COVID-19 and the need for their caregivers to let them be independent,” he said.
Some of the parents and caregivers at the event hailed the government for organising the programme, saying it has given them a sense of belonging.
“Let me reiterate that in tandem with our governor’s THEMEs agenda that none of the Lagosians will be left out as far as governance is concerned in Lagos, hence the incorporation of the children to feel the impact of the government, carry them along and extend the benefits derived by adults living with disabilities in Lagos,” Dairo said.
