‘PDP not ready for issue-based campaign’

The Buhari Campaign Organisation (BCO) yesterday lashed out at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for insisting President Muhammdu Buhari had no school certificate.

According to the group, the opposition party is bereft of a clear cut manifesto to engage in issue-based campaigns.

BCO was reacting to PDP’s statement on Friday that it was a tragicomedy for the President to dramatically come so low as to collecting a certificate of attestation from the West African Examination Council (WAEC).

The BCO, in a statement by its Director of Communications and Strategic Planning, Mallam Gidado Ibrahim, noted that instead of telling Nigerians why they want to return to power, the PDP had resorted to flogging a dead horse needlessly with Buhari’s certificate scandal.

Ibrahim said: “We thought that the campaign for the 2019 elections should evolve past a certificate scandal, which has already been overplayed. But the PDP, with a shrill voice, has gone to the grave yard to resurrect a dead certificate issue. This is the same issue they dwelled on in 2015 and failed woefully.

“From the antics of the opposition party, it is glaring that the PDP lacks a clear cut manifesto with which to engage the ruling party in issue-based campaigns and constructive debates for 2019. This explains vividly the party’ posturing and browbeating that is nothing short of a wild goose chase.

“Curiously, this is the same PDP that has been talking with a shrill voice how the campaign for 2019 should be issue-based and focused on how the candidates can better the lot of Nigerians. It is now left for Nigerians to crosscheck properly whether this over flogged certificate scandal amounts to constructive electioneering”.

Counselling the PDP on what true campaign should look like, the BCO said, “The issues should be the level of unemployment of millions of our young Nigerians, the security challenges and the monumental corruption, which President Buhari has, to a large extent, been able to address in just three years after the PDP impoverished the people with its 16 years of misrule.

“Instead of showing the knack for regaining power at all costs, the opposition should focus its campaign should on how to surpass President Buhari’s excellent performance in office. Any other thing would be an exercise in futility and a waste of time”.

The BCO also chided the PDP over the decision by its presidential candidate to hold a strategic meeting with his team in Dubai, saying it is definitely a pointer to the fact that the PDP is planning to wield the country back to the era where the elites embarked on extravagant spending in the name of foreign trips.
