The planned nation-wide strike by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has been called off.
The decision to rescind the strike followed the reprieve by the Rivers State government to release the 22 staff members of Exxon Mobil arrested for violating the State Executive Council (SEC) Order, restricting movement in the state to stop the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a statement yesterday, PENGASSAN National President, Comrade Lumumba Okegbawa, quoted the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Rivers State, Prof Zaccheaus Adangor, as saying that the the workers were released without charges, adding that the state government would no longer press charges against them.
Okegbawa said the decision by the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, to release the oil workers had nullified the plans earlier made by oil workers union to embark on a strike, today.
