Peterside ends tenure in NIMASA

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment Mr Bashir Jamoh as the Director-General (DG) of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), The Nation learnt on Wednesday.

The appointment, sources at the Federal Ministry of Transportation said, was made by the President to mark the expiration of the four-year tenure of Dr Dakuku Peterside.

Peterside was the governorship candidate of APC in April 11, 2015 governorship election in Rivers State and also a former member, House of Representatives from 2011 to 2015 before he became the DG of NIMASA in March 2016.

Jamoh’s appointment,  it was gathered, takes effect from March 9, when the tenure of Peterside will end.

Jamoh is from Kaduna State and was the Executive Director (ED), Administration and Finance of the agency.

He joined NIMASA 17 years ago, as an Assistant Chief Commercial Officer eastern and central zones.

He was head of various units and departments of the agency before he was appointed by President Buhari in 2016 as ED.

Jamoh is the author of the book Harnessing Nigeria’s Maritime Assets, Past, Present and Future.

The new DG is the President, Chartered Institute of Transport and Administration of Nigeria.

Jamoh holds a doctorate from the University of Port Harcourt. He specialised in logistics and transport management.

He also holds a Masters degree in management from Korea Maritime and Ocean University, a post-graduate diploma in management sciences from Bayero University, Kano and a diploma in accounting from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

He is married and has  children.
