A leading consumer goods firm Procter & Gamble (P&G) has supported Kebbi government with over one million pampers diapers to promote its maternal and child healthcare initiative.
The initiative will also promote child hygiene in the first 1,000 days of a child.
P&G Africa Director for Government Relation and Public Policy, Mrs. Temitope Iluyemi, stated these during the flag-off of the partinership and distribution of the pampers at the Primary Health Center (PHC) Raha in Bunza local government area of Kebbi state.
Iluyemi said: “At P&G, they deliver promise to make everyday life better for consumers. She also said their brands improve the lives of people in the communities where they live and work.
“We believe in being a force for good and a force for growth wherever we operate. As such, our operations touch thousands of lives with economic prosperity and our citizenship efforts in Nigeria touch over 5 million people.
“We are grateful for this opportunity to lend our support to the promotion of maternal and child health through increased immunization and antenatal care programs in the state.”
However Iluyemi also assured that the company will continue to support the Kebbi government’s programme in reducing infant mortality rate in the state by increasing immunisation in areas with low immunization rates.

Wife of Kebbi Governor Dr. Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu said every child has a right to life and quality health, “which is why we are grateful to P&G, for supporting our drive to promote maternal and child health in the state”.
She said With their support, nursing mothers across the state who visit the Primary Health Centers to: attend antenatal care, delivery and vaccinate their wards will receive free Pampers diapers alongside mama delivery kits.”
Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Jafa’ar Mohammad, said the intervention of the P&G would go a long way in improving the hygiene of babies and nursing mothers as well stimulate and encourage the intake of immunisation and Antenatal Care in the state.

Chairman Bunza Local Government, Alhaji Bello Mamuda, commended Kebbi State Government and the company for reaching out to women in his local government.
He lamented: “Infants mortality rate is a big challenge in the area and there is need to continue to sensitise our women and urge our men to be allowing their wives attend hospital. adding that the P&G gesture would assist a lot in curbing mortality rate in the area.”
