Pirates kidnap five persons in Rivers waterway

About five persons, including two women, have been kidnapped along the Bonny waterways in Rivers State.

The incident occurred barely two weeks after five members of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) were abducted along the Kula-Abonnema waterway.

The latest incident reportedly took place near the Federal Ocean Terminal (FOC) in Onne axis of the state.

The victims, who were traveling on a speedboat, were seized and whisked away by their assailants between 7.30 and 8am on Tuesday.

A source, who spoke in confidence, said the incident was immediately reported to the marine police.

He said the five passengers were isolated and taken away while the other travelers were allowed to continue their journey to Port- Harcourt.

When contacted, Rivers Police spokesman, Nnmadi Omoni, said he would contact the officer-in-charge of marine police for details of the incident.
