Youths from the North Central have expressed joy over renewed commitment by President Muhammadu Buhari to revive the moribund Ajaokuta Steel Plant sited in Kogi state.

They expressed confidence that revival of the plant will address “a lot of the challenges in the region and country at large both industrial, economic and social sector.”

The youths commended the setting up of an implementation committee by the President.

In a statement jointly signed by the Speaker, North Central, Youth Assembly of Nigeria (NCYAN), Olasunkanmi Kolawole and Board Chairman, Salahudeen Lukman, the youths pledged to work with the Federal Government to ensure the plant comes back to life.

“We are indeed grateful as citizens from the north central region to President Buhari for his clear expression of genuine interest and commitment to revive the moribund Ajaokuta Steel Plant after many years.

“The recent implementation committee set up by the federal government and headed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha and declaration of the modalities is highly commendable and heartwarming.

“We assure the committee of our support and cooperation as a major stakeholder in the region. We are very confident that the revival of the plant will address a lot of challenges in the region,” they said.

The youths called on governors of the region to rise up to the challenges facing the north central and harness its potentials for economic growth and development.

“North central as a region is backward in development. This we believe is like a case of suffering amidst abundance, hence we call on our various state governments to immediately rise to the occasion and harness the potentials across the states in the region for economic prosperity as well as reposition the region in Nigerian polity,” they added.
