The police at the weekend arraigned a 56-year-old man, Oyebode Adebayo, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’Court for alleged fraud.
The defendant, whose address was not provided, is facing a count charge of fraud.
Prosecutor Johnson Okunade told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in October 2018 at Ojido area in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant, who claimed to be a surveyor, fraudulently obtained the sum of N40,000 from Abimbola Aderonke and failed to deliver his service to her.
The prosecutor also alleged that the defendant did not refund the money.
Okunade said the offence contravened Section 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
He asked the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendant pleaded not guilty.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Adesoji Adegboye, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N50,000 with one credible surety.
He adjourned the case till February 1 for hearing.
