Police in Bayelsa State have smashed a suspected armed robbery gang and arrested four persons in Yenagoa, the state capital.

Spokesman Asinim Butswat said in a statement on Wednesday that the operation was carried out by SWAT operatives following a tip-off.

Butswat said the operatives stormed the criminals’ hideout on Ebisam Road, Yenagoa, on Tuesday  about 5:pm and arrested the four suspected armed robbers, who were allegedly planning an operation.

He said a Barretta pistol was recovered from one of them, adding that the suspects have “volunteered useful information and will be charged to court at the conclusion of investigation”.
