Police, hunters rescue priest

Men of the Edo State Police Command and some hunters in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State have rescued a Catholic priest, Fr. Isaac Agubi, who was abducted on Sunday at Ikpeshi after conducting the day’s service.

Agubi was rescued at Sasaro in Akoko-Edo after an exchange of gunfire between the police and the abductors.

He was said to have been abandoned by his abductors.

One of his abductors, who sustained bullet wounds, was arrested.

Police spokesman Chidi Nwabuzor, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), who confirmed the operation, said Fr. Agubi was rescued at 7:30 p.m.

Nwabuzor said the Catholic priest was released unhurt due to the pressure mounted by the police operatives in collaboration with the hunters and the vigilantes.
