INSPECTOR-General of Police Mohammed Adamu has said thatthe force have nearly concluded plans to deploy vehicles equipped with closed-circuit television or CCTV in the Niger-Delta.
He said police smart surveillance patrol vehicles shall be deployed in the region for surveillance and security of oil pipelines.
Adamu said the deployment will take place before the year ends.
The police chief, who spoke on Tuesday at the Southsouth Nigeria Police Regional Security Summit in Asaba, Delta State, said the introduction of smart vehicles is part of his concept of technology-driven policing.
Adamu noted the security summit was the fourth convened by the police.
He said the first was held on August 1 in Katsina State for the Northwest zone, the second on September 2 in Ibadan covering the Southwest, while the the third summit was held in Maiduguri on November 5, 2019.
Adamu said that the dynamics of crime were discussed in each of the zones.

He said during the summits in the Northwest and Northeast, it was resolved that an amnesty programme be emplaced towards addressing banditry, small arms proliferation, armed robbery and kidnapping.
Adamu said because the Southsouth is the economic nerve of the nation, the police will deploy resources and its unique capabilities towards mitigating crimes.
Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, in an address, said although militancy in the Niger Delta has abated, the zone now faces emerging security threats that require fresh approaches.
