Politicians to blame for division in Nigeria – Amosun

The Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, on Friday put the blame of the growing division in the country at the doorstep of politicians.

Addressing State House correspondents in Abeokuta, Ogun State, the governor maintained that the elites in the country often make comments that hurt the country for selfish motives.

He charged Nigerians and the media, in particular, to promote and speak on things that unite the nation rather than divide it.

While stressing that there is no nation in the world that has no challenges, Amosun said what matters is the manner the challenges are handled.

The governor urged the political class to live above board.

He said: “There is no nation that does not have challenges. What matters is the way we handle the challenges. When we speak, we should talk of things that promote unity and peace.

“This is not a sign of weakness but rather a sign of strength. We are better together as a nation.

“There is no where a part will be better than a whole if it is properly put together. Our diversity should strengthen us.”

He thanked the media for the support given to the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

He also urged the media to praise the government where it has done well and constructively criticise it where it has not done well.

According to him, his administration was embarking on infrastructure projects geared towards improving the lives of the citizens.

The projects, according to him, included roads expansion, the Abeokuta comprehensive health center upgrade, Abeokuta city modernization into a city hub and housing development, among others.
