The race to who occupies the stool of the Oniru of Iru land might have ended as Oba Gbolahan Lawal, (Abisogun II), ascended the throne as the 15th Oniru of Iru Land amidst pomp and fanfare on June 7.
Ever since the demise of the Oba Idowu Abiodun, there has been a series of events as to who occupies the highly coveted stool.
At a point, the hot race was between the duo of Prince Hakeem Oriyomi Ajasa and Aremo Segun Oniru, of the Abisogun and Akinogun ruling house respectively.
It became more competitive that; they were invited by the police to sign a peace accord document to maintain peace among their supporters.
In quick succession, the table turned away from the two prominent contestants as former commissioner for Agriculture, Lagos State, Prince Gbolahan Lawal, was announced the Oniru Elect.
This generated mixed reaction between many people but was warmly welcomed by the people of Iru land who came out in their large numbers to witness the coronation rite of the new Oniru of Iru land.
Oba Gbolahan was crowned amidst pomp and glee at a social distance lowkey event held at the Oniru’s Palace, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The strictly by invitation event saw a virtual performance from the Mayegun of Yoruba land, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal. With attendance from government functionaries, Royal fathers, and some other captains of industry.
During the event, the unimaginable, which would be regarded as one of the best highlights of the event happened.
One of the top contenders to the throne, Prince Hakeem Ajasa sauntered gleefully into the hall, fitted in an all-white agbada attire to pay homage to the newly coronated king by raining prayers, that his reign brings peace to the people of Iru land.
The show of sportsmanship by the prince was appreciated by the newly installed King as well as Governor Babajide Sanwoolu, and Oba Akinolu of Lagos.
Those present at the event were marveled at the level of maturity and show of sportsmanship displayed by Prince Hakeem Ajasa, a former cop, security expert, and technocrat from the Abisogun ruling house.
Sources present at the event averred that; Prince Oriyomi has further won the heart of all sundry with his sheer humility, embracing peace and showing support for the new king.
