The Lagos State Office of the Public Defender (OPD) has thrown its weight behind global initiatives to eliminate discrimination against women.
OPD Director, Mrs Olayinka Adeyemi, said efforts to build support for women’s rights and participation in all aspect of life – politically, economically and socially – were worth supporting.
Adeyemi spoke at the OPD’s office in Lagos to commemorate the International Women’s Day held on March 8.
She charged women to encourage one another in taking bold steps and rendering selfless service to humanity.
According to her, “The theme for this year, #BalanceforBetter, indicates that women should stand up for each rather than seeing ourselves as competitors.
“We all must endeavour to take new challenges in every field most especially in the science profession. We must think equal, Build smart, Innovate for change….”
She challenged women to draw inspiration from successful women in their communities.
“As we celebrate, we reiterate that gender cannot and should not be a barrier to us from achieving our dreams and aspirations. We are that mammoth reservoir of power and talents which has not been tapped; look around you at the great women blazing trials, changing the narrative and be inspired”, Adeyemi added.
