The Criterion, an Association of Muslim Women in Business and Professions, has said it felt the pains of mothers of the late Barakat Bello and Uwaila Omozuwa, who were gang-raped and murdered.
The women group condemned the act and called for the police to hasten the arrest of the perpetrators.
The Criterion National Amirah (President) Alhaja Fatymah Oyefeso prayed to God to give the ladies’ parents the fortitude to bear the loss.
She said: “The ugly act is getting too many; drastic steps need to be taken to abate it. These are promising young ladies that had their lives trauncated for no just cause.

“We feel the pains of the mothers of Barakah and Uwavera. It is only Allah that can console them,” she said.
The association called on the relevant authorities to bring the perpetrators of the crimes to justice.
Alhaja Oyefeso while expressing grief over the incidents lamented the incessant incidents of rape and murder of girl child and young women in the country.
She said: “Violence against women in any form is against Islamic injunctions. Barakat was a decent woman that adorned hijab (head covering) according to the dictate of Islam. It is pathetic that despite dressing decently, Barakat was raped and gruesomely murdered. We are yet to overcome the shock of the recent gruesome rape and murder of Uwavera Omozuwa, a 22-year-old microbiology student at the University of Benin, and this one happened again.
“I appeal to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to bring the perpetrators to justice. The increasing incidents of rape and murder of girl child are worrisome, Violence against women must stop, ” Alhaja Oyefeso said.
