The House of Representatives on Tuesday adjourned sitting over the death of a member, Ja’afaru Iliyasu, who died on Monday.
He represented Magama/Rijau Federal Constituency of Niger State.
Based on the tradition of the House, plenary sessions and other legislative activities were suspended for a day whenever a member passes on.
Yesterday’s sitting of the House was presided over by Deputy Speaker Idris Wase, and it lasted about 20 minutes.
The House will continue sitting today.
Wase officially informed members of Iliyasu’s death and asked Haruna Dederi to pray for the repose of the soul of the departed.
Also, Chairman of the House Committee on Rules and Business, Abubakar Fulata, was asked to move a motion for the suspension of all business on the Order Paper for the day.
Deputy Minority Leader Peter Akpatason moved a motion for adjournment of the plenary till today.
Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila postponed the planned celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), scheduled to hold yesterday, following Iliyasu’s death.
