CIVIL society organisation, Rights Coalition (SRC), has called on the Federal Government to sever diplomatic relations with the Republic of Iran for what it described as its role in the attack on the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, by members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria n(IMN), led by Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.
The coalition, which led a peaceful protest from the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Ministry of Justice yesterday in Abuja, called for the prosecution of El-Zakzaky and other members of IMN involved in the December 2015 attack on the convoy of General Buratai in Zaria, Kaduna State.
Group Coordinator Comrade Daniel Obaje described as blackmail, comments by human rights group and Western media on developments in the country as it concerns security.
Obaje said: “It is pertinent that leader of the sect be arraigned and prosecuted for terror charges as deemed appropriate.”
A director in the Ministry of Justice, Princess Okorie, who received the protesters on behalf of the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, appreciated their efforts and promised to channel their grievances to the appropriate quarters.
