FOLLOWING the release of his new single – Melanin, Tomide is quietly making strides in the industry.

Speaking to The Nation, Tomide says his goal is not to become famous but to bring the ideas in his head to life. Tomide says he sees music as a vice to bring to life the “crazy” ideas in his head.

The artiste, who has been writing songs for other acts for the last few years, has a full-length E.P to his name and his unique brand of music coupled with his charm has made him one of the stars to watch in the next few months.

His new single, “Melanin” has garnered rave reviews and he promises to deliver even more stereo candy music with his next E.P which is slated to be released in the coming months.

“Right now, I’m just having fun and I’m glad the music is speaking for me,” That was his response when he was asked what his plans for the next year are.

His signature blend of pop melodies and trap-inspired bounce, combined with witty lyrics and catchy hooks, has made him a fan favourite in the “alte” music scene and he says he has no plans in conforming to the secular Nigerian sound anytime soon.

“I think everyone brings something unique to the industry, and I don’t even believe in genres of music. Eventually, every artist is a genre, cos you are a blend of many musical inspirations. That’s how I see it. And that’s what I want the fans to see.”

On his name, Tomide says he came up with it while trying to rebrand himself.

“Oftentimes, artists try to deflect their insecurities. Me, I don’t. Instead, I wear it on my sleeve. I’m unafraid to talk about my flaws and a good way to introduce my fans to this is through my name – the Skinny Nerd. Also, I’m really a Nerd and I’m quite skinny”.
