Our Reporter

Armed robbers in the early hours of yesterday attacked a priest  in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, carting away several valuables including offering cash, phone, footwear, and electronics.

Rev Father Mfa Mdooyongo, parish priest of St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, Demekpe, said that while the rogues were taking one item after another, they kept asking him for forgiveness.

The priest told The Nation that the robbers came about 2am, forcing their way into his bedroom through a window with the aid of a ladder.

The cleric said the heavily-armed robbers forced him  into a toilet, shot into the  air and escaped unchallenged.

“The robbers were calm throughout the operation. They kept begging for forgiveness,” he said.

“I love the confidence and the calmness in them. One of them, for anything he picked, he would say forgive us Father,” he added.

“The robbers demanded for N5 million or dollars from me, but I told them that I don’t have that kind of money. I told them what I had and gave that to them,” he said.

Policemen have visited the priest’s home.
