Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has enjoined Muslims in the state to continue on the path of spirituality, peaceful co-existence, and to remain tolerant of other religions, saying Lagos is noted for religious harmony.
A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Gboyega Akosile, prayed for Lagosians and Nigerians to witness and celebrate more Eid-el-Fitri in good health and prosperity.
“As we celebrate Eid-el-Fitri worldwide, I wish our Muslim brothers and sisters in Lagos State and in Nigeria, Eid Mubarak. We thank God for sparing our lives to witness and celebrate the Year 2022 Eid-el-Fitri.
“I urge my dear Muslim brothers and sisters to continue to emulate the good virtues inherent in Ramadan, such as helping the poor and the vulnerable in the society, offering gratitude to Allah, showing compassion and generosity to one another, among other good deeds that guide your faith.”
Speaker of the House of Assembly Mudashiru Obasa congratulated Muslim faithful for enjoying Allah’s special grace to partake in the Ramadan. He also thanked them for using the period to seek the face of Allah in the efforts to make the country a better place.
Obasa advised Nigerians to remain steadfast, united, love one another and always play positive roles while the country’s leaders work for its progress.
“With the enormous human and other resources that we have, Nigeria has great potentials. These potentials can be tapped by looking inwards, making the right choices, working to achieve them and, above all, seeking Allah’s direction and guidance.
“We are encouraged that the successes so far recorded in Lagos, through a synergy between the House of Assembly and other arms of government, have become reference points for development. We are not there yet, but we are constantly on the right path knowing that the best is achievable.
“As we mark this year’s Eid-el-Fitr, therefore, we should further resolve not to deviate from the lessons of Ramadan, the virtues of Islam and the commandments of Allah. If we do these, we are sure that we have played some of the roles expected of us as citizens for a greater Nigeria…”
State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Corvelius Ojelabi has urged residents to remain tolerant of other religious faiths and show love across political divides.
“Many have shunned social vices and irresponsible behaviours throughout the month while others have been engaged in spiritual development. I urge them not to go back to their bad ways so that the gains they have made can be permanent in their lives.
“I also urge everyone to remain tolerant of other religious faiths and show love to people across political divides,” Ojelabi said.
